On Saturday March 1st 2014 the Chippenham Male Voice Choir gave a concert in aid of An African Dream.
The idea for this concert was conceived by Colin and Rosie Greenwood who already knew about the charity and were keen to help raise funds. Colin is a member of the choir.
Colin and Rosie, together with trustees, Rob Smith and Liz Edmondson-Smith, helped to organise this event.
The Concert was held in the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin in Bishop's Cannings, near Devizes, Wiltshire. Other trustees that attended were Isabel Murray and Helen Edwards.
The evening started with a humorous welcome from Rob Smith who then introduced the founder and its patron - Sophie Campbell-Wynter. Sophie did a very interesting talk on the history of An African Dream and thanked everyone for coming to support this fundraising event. Rob then gave an update on how the charity is moving forward and how the charity work will benefit from the funds raised at this event. It is hoped that we will be able to run a Community Health Day at St Mark's School, East Kasese. This would enable a team of doctors, nurses and assistants to advise, check and treat those in the local community who cannot afford healthcare.Under the direction of Bob Jones the choir began with a very popular opening number, 'Let the River Run'. The choir continued to entertain us with some lovely numbers such as 'The African Alleluia' and 'Zambezi'. Alongside the lively singing we also had a brilliant solo piece on the clarinet from Bob, very humourous verse from Pete Field and some great solo singing from a few members of the choir. After the concert the audience were invited to look at the photographic display on the work of An African Dream, visit the Charity stall with african crafts and enjoy the drinks and light buffet included in the ticket price. The evening was a great success and a great many people came to support the charity. Two people signed up to sponsor an orphan at St Mark's School. From donations and ticket sales £600 was raised in total. We were very pleased with this result.Rob and Liz would like to thank all those who came to support them including Ann Jarvis who ran the African Dream Stall and Rosie and Colin who did the programme. Our thanks also goes to all those who helped to sell tickets at the door, prepare food, set up the church and clear up afterwards.
